God does the same thing: out with the old in with the new! He makes us new, he gives us a new heart, a new life, a new soul, even a new name (someday)
Even with all the shiny, "new" he promises us we still dwell on the old, dull, nasty ugly past. There is something ironic about how we look forward to the sale at your favorite store that says "new shipment" but we doubt God's ability to make us new, help us get out of our past.
God is the God of mercy, grace, renewal, begin agains, do overs, start agains! Even after 100 mess ups you have a zillion more chances to not mess up again! And on top of that you have learned a zillion ways to not do what you screwed up on, so it is a win/win.
The Bible has so many verses that talk about this, it's obviously very important to God. Look some of these up and write them down, figure out what needs to be made new in your life.
Psalm 40:3- he put a NEW song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Psalm 98:1- sing to the Lord a NEW song for He has done marvelous things.
Isaiah 62:2- You will be called a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow
65:17- Behold, I will create NEW Heaven and NEW earth, the former things will not be remembered nor will they come to mind
Lamentations 3:22-23- Becasue of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are NEW every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Ezekiel 18:31, Acts 5:20, Romans 6:4, Ephesians 4:23,
Colossians 3:10: ...and have put on the NEW self which is being reNEWed in the knowledge in the image of its creator.
There are so many more, don't get stuck thinking that this is as good as it gets, God wants so much more and so much better than what you think you want. Soak yourself in the knowledge of his newness.
